The Start You Didn’t Imagine — Beginnings don’t determine endings. Even if the year began with challenges, new opportunities and possibilities are ahead. Waves crashing against rocks, symbolizing unexpected change.

You don’t understand why you are going through this. Instead of moving forward, you have setback after setback, and you are starting to lose hope. In moments like these, it can be difficult to see beyond the obstacle in front of us. This is another post in my series of reflections on Life’s Transition. I invite you to start with my first post: https://beatricegarrett.com/the-start-you-didnt-imagine-beginnigs-dont-determine-endings/

Sometimes our most profound lessons about faith, breakthrough, and resilience will come in ways we don’t expect. You are not a failure. This setback is helping you discover the overcomer in you! I share more about this in my eBook, The Overcomer in You.

Setbacks Reveal the Overcomer in You

We don’t know the depth of our inner strength and resilience until setbacks stop our momentum. There is a decision point, the moment an unexpected obstacle is in front of us, and our plans change. We can start complaining, find reasons to quit, or decide there is a purpose for the pause.

It is in that decision that our perspective begins to shape our response. From our perspective on the in-between season, we will either move the obstacle out of our way or walk away from the challenge. What we decide either draws us closer to God or distances us from him.

God Uses Setbacks to Redirect Our Path

A setback is one way God realigns us to his plan and will for our lives. We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps. Proverbs 16:9. The in-between season of renewal, and a time for planning and preparation. As God reroutes us onto a new path to meet our destiny, helpers and opportunities we would have missed if it had not been for the setback.

If you are in a season of navigating a setback, I share more about facing unexpected change in this Blog post.

Don’t Give Up Too Soon

Before you decide that it was never meant to work out, consider that this setback may be a blessing in disguise if you view it from God’s perspective. God never wastes a setback, detour, delay, or any unexpected turn in our lives. God has a way of working everything together for our good. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. He always has a purpose, in every detail of his plan, even when we cannot yet see it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this reflection. I hope it encouraged you to see your setback from God’s perspective, and that he has a purpose even in our setbacks. I would love to know what this season is teaching you.
